January 7th, 2025 – Dr. Luigi De Salvia has been unanimously elected as the new President of Assembly of Religions for Peace (RfP) Europe. The election took place during an online meeting of the RfP Europe Board, which included representatives from four key co-committees: the European National Interreligious Bodies (ENIB), the European Council of Religious Leaders (ECRL), the European Women of Faith Network (EWFN), and the European Interfaith Youth Network (EIYN).

Luigi De Salvia was born in San Severo (Foggia) on 23/10/1948. Graduated in medicine and surgery, specialized in Ophthalmology. In 2002 diploma in Theological Culture. Since 2003 involved in experiences of interreligious dialogue. In February 2007 elected General Secretary of the Italian section of Religions for Peace. In the following two years he was reconfirmed until 2016. In 2008 he founded with colleagues of various traditions the association “Listen to the Sufferings” for interreligious cooperation in medicine. Since February 2010 he has been involved in a project for the reception of religious and cultural specificities in health facilities. He was the coordinator of the conference “Religions, cultures, and human rights – a complex relationship in evolution”, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome in May 2010. Since January 2011, he has taught at the “Master in Cultural and religious mediation” established within the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. On 12 December 2016, he was elected President of Religions for Peace/Italy. On 30 April 2018, he was elected President of Religions for Peace Europe, which coordinates the various national groups of RfP in Europe. During 2022-2024, he was President of ENIB (European National Interreligious Bodies) Religions for Peace Europe and for 18 months, June 2023-December 2024 he was President of Religions for Peace Europe.
